Breaking: President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari is dead.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari is dead.

In a statement on Saturday morning to AKWAPOLY UPDATE,  the Presidency announced the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.

The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19 and had been receiving treatment. Abba Kyari died on Friday, April 17, 2020.

Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.

His life

Abba Kyari was a businessman, Lawyer and Politicians. Born in Borno state to a Kanuri family, Kyari graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Warwick in 1980. He also has a bachelor’s degree in law from Cambridge University and was called to bar in 1983.

He also posses a master’s degree in Law and participated in a Management development course in Harvard Business School in 1992 and 1994.

Kyari and President Buhari are very close friends. On March 24, 2020, Kyari tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from an official trip to Germany nine days before.

  • Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene on Wednesday 29th January held her 2020 Solemn Assembly with a charge by the Rector, Barr. Moses Umobong for all to come together towards the building the institution.
  • Barr. Moses who spoke at the Assembly Hall thanked God Almighty for preserving the staffs, Students and management of the institution to see 2020 in good health and prayed for blessings upon them all. He charged students to desits from acts capable of bringing disdain to not only themselves but to the institution at large.

  • “Today i urge us all to lay aside anything that will take the name of the Polytechnic to the mud. Let the year 2020 be a year with a difference where we’ll all come together to build this institution.”
    Barr. Moses while praying qagainst death in the institution charged them to take the message from the clergyman very seriously and come out from things that will sneer the reputation of the institution. He also thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for his efforts so far in the institution and hoped that more will be done.
    While also appreciating the students for their peaceful conduct during the just concluded SUG and legislative elections, he commended the efforts put in by the Dean, Students Affairs,
  • Mr.Emmanuel Umoh towards ensuring a smooth students – management relationship. He assured them of his administration support towards changing the face of the institution starting from the renovation of the Mass Communication studio and others.
  • Pastor Eno John in his homily on the topic “COME” from Isaiah. 1:18 charged Christians to come back to God in prayers and faithfulness while upholding virtues which can be emulated by all.

  • Prayers were offered for peace and progress in the institution, governing council, Rector, members of the management, academic board members, the host community, students, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
  • Dignitaries at the event include the Rector, Barr. Moses Umobong, Chief Librarian, Dr. Okon Eneidiok, Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, management team, student leaders, SUG executives, Parliamentarians, staffs, Clergymen, union leaders, lecturers, students amongst others.

The Electrical Electronics Engineering Student Association (ELESA), Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Chapter today held her general congress at the Assembly Hall.

The Dean, Students Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umoh thanked the students for the massive support to him since assumption of office describing the department as his primarily Constituency. He promised them management efforts towards ensuring that the environment continues to be peaceful.

Mr. Emmanuel while commending the newly sworn in executives for putting up the congress charged the students to be focused in their studies stating that violence isn’t the answer to all problems rather peaceful coexistence.

The Head of Department, Engr. Namso Akpan charged the students to uphold good virtues by portraying the department in a good light stating his resolve towards sanitizing the system.

Earlier in his opening remarks the President, ELESA, Comrade Edikan Effiong thanked the students for their support to him which made him victorious at the polls and asked for more support in his administration.
